Equnival partnered with NESCAUM to ensure that environmental justice and community perspectives shaped a new Multi-State Action Plan for equitable residential building decarbonization. By convening a year-long Environmental Justice Advisory Group, we helped produce guiding principles, policy recommendations, and detailed feedback that now inform state-level strategies across the Northeast. The process also surfaced a critical need to expand access to clean-energy jobs and business opportunities—spurring Equnival’s next phase of work at the intersection of EJ and labor.

Equnival recently supported the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) as it provided a refresh of its Environmental Justice Toolkit. Equnival conducted interviews with a cross-section of community leaders and developed targeted recommendations to strengthen community engagement on air and climate policy across the region.

Equnival provided process design and facilitation support to the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission. The team developed the commission’s strategy, managed full commission and workgroup dialogues, and designed consensus decision-making processes—culminating in recommendations delivered to Congress in September 2023.

Equnival partnered with The Nature Conservancy – Maryland Chapter to convene community and environmental justice advocates with state and local officials. Together, they identified key Chesapeake region priorities and shaped potential policy and action strategies to address them.

Equnival partnered with CESA to help states integrate equity into offshore wind planning and development. Through a multi-year process involving scoping interviews, a national workshop, and an Offshore Wind and Equity Working Group of state agencies and community organizations, we facilitated honest dialogue, built trust, and co-developed recommendations to strengthen community engagement and make offshore wind development more just and inclusive.

Equnival has learned a great deal from its work with communities, local governments, and civic leaders over the years. Communities often know the outcomes they want to improve their everyday lives; they often seek the supportive partnerships and resources to effectively implement these initiatives. Equnival uses this understanding of the Resource Ecosystem to guide its work with communities.
